First patch


Just wanted to update everyone on the progress of the game. While still in alpha, I've made a few adjustments overall:

  • Improvements to combat for the ghosts and the non-violent bats.
  • New mechanic (and accompanying option screen): now you have the option to turn on your compass, which will help you determine when a marked branch is a dead end, so you can stay on the critical path.
  • Related to that, the option screen now holds the save function, instead of the map screen.
  • Fixes to bugs, such as collision errors and wrong sprites.

So in my arbitrary numbering, the game is now version 0.1.4. I hope to iron out any more bugs to this area before I begin scripting the other four branches in the cave. As of now, only 1/4 of the game is accessible but I have the rest of the scenes drafted. They still need to be populated with enemies and items, but the backbones are there.

In addition, another decision I hope to make sometime is the in-between areas for each branch. As of now, the plan is that the four branches (which are four different colors and tilesets) will be randomized so that each time you play is a different order. However, once you complete one branch and move onto the next, I haven't decided to include just a cutscene, a small connecting room, or a boss fight. Part of me is leaning toward having boss fights at the end of each branch, but we'll see if I feel up to that after scripting the other 3/4 of this game.

Also, the cover image is a character sheet of Kishona (the protagonist) I commissioned for the game, so enjoy some concept art!
